Here’s this week 4-H spotlight

During the month of May, we are highlighting our Milam County 4-H seniors graduating in 2020. We are so proud of these youth as they have worked very hard, for most of them, over 10 years in 4-H. They have competed in numerous competitions and have gained skills they will use their entire life.

Wayne and I joined Wanda and Al Coats and family for lunch Sunday, then spent the afternoon at the home of Keely and Chris Cooper, Connelly and Cameron and their friends. Had a great day! Still enjoying this nice weather. Gonna be hot shortly!

Disneyland spaghetti, two desserts

Mom made spaghetti for lunch the other day and it sure was good. She’s been using the same recipe for years but until that day I had no idea the spaghetti sauce recipe was from Disneyland of all places. One ingredient I was surprised to see is chili powder.

$108-MILLION ARBITRATION JUDGMENT IN LITTLE RIVER CASE

  An arbitrator has ruled in favor of Little River Health Care--a bankrupt health care provider which used to operate facilities in Rockdale and Cameron--in a long-standing Chapter 7 Bankruptcy action.

COVID-19 CASES GO TO 22

  The count of Milam County COVID-19 cases grew quickly to 22 over the noon hour Tuesday and one more later Tuesday afternoon is a possibility, according to County Judge Steve Young.   Young said one case is related to case No. 20 which was reported Friday.

20 CASES NOW

  Milam County has recorded a 20th case of COVID-19.   County Judge Steve Young said the newest case was reported on Friday.   It's the second case added to the county's tally in two days.   Cases are expected to increase as testing results come in.

MILAM SHELTER-IN-PLACE EXPIRING FRIDAY

Milam County Commissioners voted 4-1 Thursday morning to end the county's Shelter-In-Place order, effective at 12:01 a.m.. Friday (May 8).  That brings the county in line with an executive order issued by Gov. Greg Abbott. who had allowed the state order to expire.

IT'S GOOD NEWS

  County Judge Steve Young said Thursday morning all the COVID-19 test rest results from last week's testing in Milano have now been completed, and no new positive cases were found.   The county had been waiting for a week for the final 25 results from the April 29 testing.

Food program giveaway set for Thursday

The first Central Texas Food Bank (CTFB) Mobile Food Pantry distribution of May in the KC Hall parking lot will be held on Thursday, according to Rockdale Christian Services Chair Pam Warren. That’s the first and third Thursdays, May 7 and 21. Hours are 9 to 11 a.m.

Senior Center food event also Thursday

The next frozen food distribution for those registered with the Rockdale Senior Citizen Center is 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the center, according to staffer Carolyn Cooper. “This happens every two weeks,” Cooper said. Those wanting to apply (60 and over) may call Cooper at 512-446-2666.
