Early voting shows increase

A total of 2,895 Milam County residents voted early in the 2020 primaries. That total combines the Republican and Democratic votes. That’s a substantial increase over the past two primary elections, one each held in presidential and non-presidential election years.

Melton cancer benefit set for March 22

A benefit is planned March 22 for Milano resident Richard Melton and family as he battles gastric cancer. He is receiving treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and the event is being held to help with expenses during his battle to win this fight.

RHS musicians win at UIL

SMITHVILLE—Rockdale High School Big Blue Band students competed in UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest at Smithville High School. The Big Blue Band Brass Quartet earned a Division 1 (Superior) rating and advanced to the UIL Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest in May.

Food handler course deadline extended

Deadline to register for the March 23, 25 Food Handler course in Cameron has been extended to Thursday (March 5). Statistics indicate that food-borne illness continues to be a health issue in the United States.

Public School Week activity through Friday

Texas Public School Week activities continue through Friday in the Rockdale ISD. Several events have already been held. LUNCH—The annual “Lunch With Loved Ones” events are set for Thursday at the elementary campus and Friday at the intermediate.

New location

Crossroads Bible Church has a new location thanks to a donation from the former Rockdale Christian Fellowship Church. The church is now located at 811 Burleson. Bible study starts at 10 a.m. with worship at 11 a.m. each Sunday.

World Day of Prayer Celebration on Friday

World Day of Prayer is a Christian women-led ecumenical movement that aims to bring together people of various races, cultures and traditions in a yearly communion of Prayer Day. The women of Zimbabwe have written this year’s service.

St. Joseph’s to celebrate 140th anniversary

St. Joseph’s Catholic Church will be celebrating their 140th anniversary on Saturday, March 7, at the Rockdale KC Hall. Bishop Joe S. Vasquez will preside over mass at 10 a.m. with lunch to follow. The KC Hall will cater chicken with parishioners providing sides.

Peace Lutheran Lent Soup Supper events

The Wednesday Lent Soup Suppers will be starting on March 6 and will run throughout Lent: March 6, 13, 20, 27, and April 1. Suppers will begin at 6 p.m. followed by a short service at 6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.
