Editor’s note: Early voting begins Monday in the May 4 City of Rockdale election. The Reporter invited candidates in Rockdale’s contested race to submit statements of candidacy for voters to consider.

Candidates Night ahead on Thursday A Meet the Candidates night for the public to become familiar with candidates on the May city and school elections ballots is set for 6 p.m. Thursday at VFW Post 6525. It is sponsored by the post and its auxiliary, according to Rod Roderick, spokesman.

Hacker defendants plea

The Emily Hacker murder case is coming to a sudden end. On Thursday morning, Candice Nicole Jones, 32, of Rockdale, pleaded guilty and 32-year-old Edward Brannon Barry of Caldwell entered an “open” plea before District Judge John Youngblood.

Earth Day activities set Monday

Earth Day is here and while some projects are already under way, and while there’s a Saturday event, the majority of the operation will see volunteers spread out through town Monday, cleaning and beautifying.

City, RISD early vote to start Monday

Early voting for the May 4 city and school elections in Rockdale begins Monday at City Hall. Both elections are in the same place. City voters will elect a mayor, two city council members and decide the fate of two proposed amendments to the city charter.
