Funeral services for Joyce Martin Ball, 90, of Milano were held Monday, April 9, 2018, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale, with Pastor Gary Westbrook and Russell Thornburg officiating. Burial was at Milano Cemetery.

Mrs. Ball died Thursday, April 5, at Cameron Nursing Center in Cameron.

She was born Oct. 11, 1927, in Cameron to Ira Vel and Oleta (Modesette) Wise.

She received her BS degree in English and math from Southwest Texas State Teachers College.

On June 3, 1949, she married Charlie R. Martin at Liberty Community Church near Milano.

Mrs. Ball taught school in Hutto ISD, Rockdale ISD, El Campo ISD and, in 1974, returned to Milano to teach in the Milano ISD.

She married Eldon A. Ball on Dec. 26, 1983, at First Baptist Church in Milano.

Mrs. Ball was a member of First Baptist Church in Milano and was active in the Retired Teachers Association.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charlie Martin on Sept. 8, 1980; her father, Ira Vel Wise on Dec. 6, 1972; her mother, Oleta Wise on June 16, 2009; two brothers, Milton Carol Wise on Oct. 4, 2009, and Vel Kline Wise on March 27, 2010; a son-in-law, Jerry Stephenson; and a sister-in-law, Dot Wise.

Survivors are her husband, Eldon A. Ball of Milano; a son, Jed Logan Martin of Bryan; two daughters, Sandal Stephenson of Camp Creek, Shelley Guilfoyle and husband Edmond of Houston; three stepsons, Eldon Ball Jr. and wife Shirley of Taylor, Allan Ball and wife Terri of Sugar Land, Darel Ball and wife Marve of Seguin; a stepdaughter, Beth Thornburg and husband Russell of Olathe, Kansas; a brother, Glenn Wise of Universal City; two sisters-in-law, Ann Wise of Rockdale, Lee Wise of Austin; nine grandchildren, Erik Martin, Nathan, Emily, Jason, Bethany, Summer, Brett, Brooke and Katie; 10 great-grandchildren, Hayden, Drew, Carson, Erin, Will, Hannah, Noura, Evelyn, Ellie, Isaac; and her “forever” friend, Avys Locke of Milano.

Pallbearers were Rick Greer, Jason Ball, Hayden Ball, Drew Ball, Nathan Ball and Brett Ball.
