Neva Jack Caffey stepped into eternal glory to be with her savior Jesus Christ, her sweetheart Charles, and a host of loved ones on We d n es d ay, Jan. 28, 2026.
A graveside ser vice for Neva, 80, of Rockdale, is scheduled for 10 a.m. at Salty Cemetery, followed by visitation at 12-noon and memorial service at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Pastor Jonathan Brooks of Restoration Church Bryan will officiate.
Neva was born May 12, 1945, in Corpus Christi, the only child born to Jack and Margaret (Jones) Havel.
She was raised in Lake Jackson and was a 1963 graduate of Brazosport High School.
She graduated from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, where she was a member of the nationally famous Southwest Texas Strutters.
On Jan. 22, 1966, Neva married her “sweethear t,” Charles Ray Caffey, in Lake Jackson.
After their marriage, Neva worked as a teacher in San Marcos until Charles, Neva and their two sons, Derek and Kevin, moved to Rockdale in 1976, where for several years she was a stay-at-home mom and enjoyed playing tennis, bridge, and shopping.
In 1988, Neva returned to teaching, this time for Milano ISD, where she spent 28 years loving on and impacting her beloved students.
Neva loved spending time with her sweetheart, her sons, and all of their many friends.
She was the director of the Rockdale Fair Queen pageant for 38 consecutive years.
Her greatest accomplishment was raising her two sons and being a loving wife, mother, mother-in-love, and Gigi.
Neva passed in eternity quickly and peacefully on January 28, after a lengthy battle with FTD. She brought much joy and happiness to the residents and staff, who loved her and took excellent care of her in the memory care facility at the Parc at Traditions in Bryan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ray Caf fey; her parents, Jack and Margaret Havel; and her in-laws, Charles Cleo “Buck” and Alta Rae Caffey.
Surviving are her two sons, Charles Derek Caffey and wife April of Rockdale, Kevin Ray Caffey and wife Stacie of Bryan; six grandchildren, Colton Caffey and wife Tiffany, Austin Caffey and wife Amanda, Brandi, Jackson, Slaton and Vivian; three great-grandchildren, Kallen and Kendall (Austin and Amanda), and Blair (Colton and Tiffany); a cousin, Debra Sommers and husband Guy of Atlanta, Georgia.
Pallbearers will be Derek Caffey, Colton Caffey, Austin Caffey, Kevin Caffey, Jackson Caffey and Slaton Caffey.
