Funeral services for Shirley June Davenport, 61, of Minerva were held Monday, Jan. 22, 2018, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Burial was at Minerva Cemetery in Minerva. Mrs. Davenport was born to Eddie Joe Cooper and Arvilla June Cooper-Flow (nee Cheak) on Jan. 25, 1956, in Slaton. She died Jan. 18, 2018, in her home with her husband, Doug Davenport, by her side. She grew up in Lamesa with her siblings and, while in high school, she was an active member of Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA). Shirley married James “Jimmie” Davenport in 1976 and the two were together 13 years. In the 1980s, Shirley went to college and became an LVN, then an RN. She primarily worked in long-term care and she became the director of nurses for a few nursing homes. In the mid-2000s, Shirley reconnected with her teenage heartthrob, Douglas “Doug” Davenport. Almost immediately, the two were inseparable. They enjoyed making trips to San Antonio; spending time with their families; making renovations to their home, which they named The Rockin’ D Ranch; and listening to classic rock and country and western music. Mrs. Davenport was preceded in death by her father, Eddie Joe Cooper; a brother, Arvil Joe Cooper; and her mother, Arvilla June Cooper-Flow. Survivors are her husband, Douglas Davenport of Rockdale; a daughter, Summer Davenport of Austin; a son, Michael Davenport and wife Brooke of Corisicana; three stepsons, Drew Davenport and wife Carissa of Porter, B.J. Davenport and wife Latia of Las Vegas, Nevada, Eric Davenport and girlfriend Tina Contreras of College Station; a sister, Linda Beard and husband John of Rockdale; a brother, Bradley Cooper of Rockdale; a granddaughter, Adeline Davenport of Corsicana; step-grandchildren Ella, Elizabeth, Imana and Marley Davenport; many nieces, nephews, great-nephews, two aunts, two uncles, and multiple cousins.
