Doris A. Campbell, 93, of Marlin passed away on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017, in Marlin. Visitation was held Tuesday, Jan. 2, 201 8, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home with graveside services set for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, at the Pleasant Retreat Cemetery in Thorndale, with Pastor Ray Prince officiating. She was born Aug. 12, 1924, to Homer Grubbs and Lovie Lee (Locklin) Grubbs in Milam County and was a former resident of Thorndale. Mrs. Campbell and her husband, Pete Campbell, were married on March 26, 1954. She was a bookkeeper for Cotton Oil Mill for 30-plus years. Mrs. Campbell was preceded in death by her husband, Pete Campbell on Feb. 11, 1998; her parents; and her brothers, Bert Shavers, Henry Shavers and Louie Shavers. She is survived by her son, Jimmy Campbell and wife Sarah of Marlin; grandchildren Derek Campbell and wife Kim, Casey Campbell and wife Lisa and Matthew Tindle and wife Stephanie; great-grandchildren Cole, Nash, Cade, Ariah, Shawn, Layne, Tyler, Lyndie, Kaylee, and Emily; brothers Billy Wayne Shavers and wife Linda of Thorndale, Donald Lee Shavers and wife Martha of Odessa; and sister Lou Ann Towery of Thorndale. Mrs. Campbell was a member of Pleasant Retreat Methodist Church where she held many offices, the Pleasant Retreat Cemetery Association and the Thorndale Ex-students Association. Doris loved the Lord, she loved her family (Jimmy being No. 1), she loved her friends and she adored her pets. She was strong willed (hard-headed) but a compassionate woman. She was a hard worker and dedicated to her responsibilities. To be such a petite woman, Doris was full of spirit, (a little firecracker). Doris was loved by many and she will be thought of everyday. May she rest in peace with her other heavenly angels. By the way, she was an awesome Maw-Maw. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Thorndale Ex-Students Association, P.O. 393, Thorndale, TX 76577.
