CAMERON—Eugene Albert “Gene” (Po’ Papa) Mitchan, 92, of Cameron died Saturday, March 26, 2022, at his home.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 31, at St. Monica Catholic Church in Cameron with Rev. Barry Cuba officiating. Burial will follow in St. Monica Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron with a rosary being recited at 7 p.m.
Mr. Mitchan was born Jan. 10, 1930, in Milam County to Albert and Celeste (Hubnik) Mitchan.
He had worked in the automotive industry all his life.
On April 29, 1950, he married Grace Leonard.
Mr. Mitchan was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church in Cameron and the Knights of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by a son, Eugene Albert “Bubbie” Mitchan Jr., and a grandson, Montana Jordan Mitchan.
Survivors are his wife, Grace Mitchan of Cameron, and children Pamela Peschel of Georgetown, Cindy Malota and husband Larry of College Station, Scott Mitchan and wife Joni, Gerry Mitchan and wife Kim, and Laura Mitchan, all of Cameron, Timothy Mitchan and wife Lisa of Giddings; also, 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
