Glynn R. Rolan, 86, of Rockdale died peacefully Sunday, Jan 7, 2018, in Giddings. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at Peace Lutheran Church in Rockdale. Mr. Rolan was born to Les and Dora Menn Rolan on March 21, 1931, in the Bushdale community. After star ting school in Rockdale, the family moved around a lot from Arizona to Houston, ending back in Rockdale in time for him to graduate from Rockdale High School. After serving a short time in the U.S. Navy, he met Zeta Woods on her first day working at Alcoa. They married June 6, 1954. They made Rockdale their permanent home, where they raised their family and made many life-long friends. Mr. Rolan was baptized as an infant into Peace Lutheran Church and remained an active member. He and Zeta served in many areas throughout their years. He enjoyed serving and helping people whenever possible serving as a Stephens Minister for his church and for several years as a hospice volunteer. Mr. Rolan was a member of the Lions Club, a founding member of the volunteer EMS in Rockdale, where he and Zeta both served many years. He enjoyed volunteering at the Rockdale Food Pantry and delivering Meals on Wheels. Mr. Rolan brought home a family of five he met at Walmart that had fled from Hurricane Katrina. The family stayed for more than a week and returned several times when threatened by other storms. He enjoyed playing dominoes, telling stories and visiting with friends and family. He had a quick wit and always a smile and kind word to share. Mr. Rolan was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Mike; a daughter, Gina; and his wife, Zeta. Survivors are his daughter Georgia and husband John Zamora of Rockdale, daughter Gia and husband Greg Galifianakis of North Carolina, sonin- law Lannie Daily of Rockdale and sister Mary Beth Rolan of Austin; along with grandsons that truly loved and looked up to their Grandpa.
