Grace Overpeck, 91, of Rockdale since 1976, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, at S.P.J.S.T. Nursing Home in Taylor. Graveside service was held Thursday, Jan. 4, at Harmony Cemetery near Rockdale. Mrs. Overpeck was born in Bay City, Michigan, on June 10, 1926, to Gertrude Mier. She was adopted by Harry and Matilda McCash in 1927. On Oct. 16, 1948, she married Howard Summers Overpeck in Lordsburg, New Mexico. He preceded her in death on Aug. 13, 1998. Mrs. Overpeck worked with her husband running Madison Transfer & Storage Co. and was elected to the board of Indiana House Hold Movers Association. She was the first woman on the board. She later worked at Walmart for seven years as a greeter. Mrs. Overpeck was a member of Richards Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, serving as president in the late 1970s. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rockdale. Survivors are a son, Ron Overpeck and wife Denise of Bastrop; and three daughters, Jan Lore and husband John of St. Louis, Missouri, Lois Akers and husband Doug of Idaho Falls, Indiana, Ann Leshikar and husband Phil of Rockdale; also, nine grandchildren, and a number of great- and great-great-grandchildren.
