GAUSE—Willard K. Kornegay, 95, of Gause went home to be with his Heavenl y Fat her on March 12, 2025, at home surrounded by his family.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p . m. Satur day, March 29, at the Wellspring Community Church on Highway 79 in Mr. Kornegay Gause. The family will receive visitors an hour prior to service at the church.
Willard Kenneth Kornegay was born Oct. 4, 1929, in Milam County to Alex and Lorene (Carr) Kornegay Sr. and was raised on the family farm while attending school in Milano.
Willard and Joy Shaw were married Oct. 23, 1948.
For a number of years, he worked in the oil fields and during the summer raised crops with his family. He was a farmer and rancher all of his life and also worked in housing construction for a number of years.
Willard enjoyed sports, playing basketball during his high school years. He was an avid football fan, enjoying the Dallas Cowboys and University of Texas games. But his greatest football love was following the Cameron Yoe High School football team, holding season tickets on the 50-yard-line from the 1970s until 2024.
He enjoyed fishing and camping with friends and playing dominoes for hours.
Willard, Joy and their children received the Lord at a small church at Hanover. They continued their Christian service in the Gause Full Gospel Church (now Wellspring Community Church) for many years, joining the church where Willard’s parents had raised their family. He taught Sunday school classes, Bible study classes and participated in many mission trips to share the gospel and build churches in areas that needed them.
Willard was preceded in death by his parents, A.W. and Lorene Kornegay; brother A.W. Kornegay Jr.; daughters Mary Lou Kornegay Hughes and Janice Kornegay Hall; and son-inlaw Wayne Hughes.
Survivors are his wife, Joy Shaw Kornegay of Gause; daughter Jo Ann Pilkey of Gause; son David Kornegay and wife Tonya of Salado; sonin- law Dennis Hall of Corinth; grandchildren Kenneth Pilkey and wife Kerith, Jonathan Hughes and wife Stacy, Jeff Hughes, Jordan Hughes and wife Zene, Lauren Hall Barrios and husband Troy, Alex Hall, Candace Kornegay Coutinho and husband Rohan, Jada Kornegay and Taryn Kornegay; as well as 17 great-grandchildren.
