Martha “Molly” Marquez, 77, formerly of Rockdale, was born Dec. 7, 1947, and on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, Martha left this earth for her forever home in heaven.
Visitation for Mrs. Marquez was held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 14, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with a rosary beginning at 7 p.m. A f uner al mass was he ld at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rock dale. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Bryan.
“Molly,” as she was best known by friends and family, was a loving wife, mothe r, g r andmot he r and great-grandmother.
Molly married the love of her life, Fred Marquez, on Feb. 24, 1968, at Santa Teresa Catholic Church in Bryan. In their early years of marriage, Molly and Fred loved to host parties, vacation and go dancing. After getting married, they made their home in Rockdale and started their family.
Molly was a loving mother to Melissa, Roseanne, and Fred Jr.
Molly was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was devoted to serving the church in many ways. She was a lector, sang in the choir and a member of the Ladies Altar Society. She enjoyed attending Mayfest each year and social gatherings with the ladies over the years.
Molly had a great love for her family and friends. She showed that love by calling everyone on their birthday and sending greeting cards.
Molly loved to talk to anyone and tell stories or jokes. She truly never met a stranger.
Molly had a love for music. She enjoyed singing and dancing to the oldies.
Molly loved to play bingo. She knew all the best spots to play and enjoyed when family and friends would go with her. She taught her grandkids to play and would even give them a cut of her winnings if they were the good luck charm!
Molly was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Fred Marquez Sr.; her parents, Gregor and Pauline Cruz; granddaughter, Shelby Guthrie; and many of her brothers and sisters.
Molly is survived by daughters Melissa Leslie (Carey), Roseanne Guthrie; son Fred Marquez Jr.; grandchildren Lindsey Mikulec (Cory), Allison Guthrie, Austin Guthrie, Elena Marquez, Kiera Marquez, Gabriel Marquez and Nevin Marquez; great-grandchildren Cooper Mikulec, Brooklyn Mikulec, Braylen Gibson and Levi Gibson; siblings Joe Cruz (Judy), Jesse Cruz, Polly Bowers (Harry); and her beloved dog, Honey.
Pallbearers were Carey Lesl ie, Cor y Mikulec, Austin Guthrie, Coope r Mi k ule c , Je r emy Galindo and Randy Cruz.
Honorary pallbearers were Fred Marquez Jr. and Gabriel Marquez.
