Gest
Walter F. Gest, 97, of Rockdale and life-long resident of Milam County, passed away on Mond ay, Nov. 25, 2024, at his home in Rockdale.
A graveside ser v ice was held on Saturday, Nov. 30, in Milano Cemetery in Milano.
Walter was born on Feb. 28, 1927, to Fritz and Selma (Fliesig) Gest in Gay Hill.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army.
He worked at Barrington & Son Auto Parts in Rockdale.
On March 8, 1952, he married Dolores “Sissy” Blackmon in Cameron.
He enjoyed gardening, not just growing vegetables but also giving them away. He always enjoyed feeding the birds.
He truly loved his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fritz and Selma Gest; his wife, Sissy Gest; a granddaughter, Brinkne Gest; two brothers, Alfred Gest and Anton Gest; four sisters, Leona Bland, Hilda McVoy, Ruby Eiland and Katie Jackson; his mother and father-in-law, Alvie and LuElla Blackmon; and a brother- in-law, Glenn Blackmon.
Walter is survived by his sons, Walter Lynn Gest and wife Cindy of Red Oak, Timothy Gest and wife Elizabeth of Kilgore; his daughters, Belinda Von Goten of Rockdale, Gwen Moraga and husband Joe of Garland, Stacy Gest Martinez and husband Blaine of Carrollton; a sister, Thelma “Corrina” Scruggs and husband Bobby of Laneport; and a sister-in-law, Rosemary Blackmon of Houston; also, 12 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
