Smith Born January 10, 1958, in Hempstead, Texas to Freddie and Cecelia (Jozwiak) Smith, Betty Ann Smith passed away peacefully on July 1 8 , 2 0 2 5 , after a courageous yearlong battle with cancer. Known lovingly to her family as “Sassy Betty,” she was a vibrant force of joy and humor, whose generosity and unwavering love touched everyone around her. Fiercely independent, she carried laughter and kindness wherever she went. Betty adored games— board games, card games, especially long poker nights around the kitchen table fi lled with laughter, joking, and shared memories. She never let a party go dull, ensuring friends and family had a full plate, a drink in hand, and quarters to play. Her devotion to family was unmatched.

She treated her nieces and nephews like her own children, often hosting unforgettable sleepovers in the Black Jack community, teaching the next generation to fi sh, build campfi res, and appreciate a good game. Her proudest role was being a mother to Matthew Smith and grandmother to Wayne Smith. Watching Wayne grow brought Betty immeasurable joy—his giggles, discoveries, and hugs made her world complete. After retiring in 2023, Betty returned to the family home in Black Jack near Rockdale, where she poured herself into creating even more beautiful memories with her loved ones. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Jesse Howard Smith. She is survived by her son, Matthew Smith and Becca; grandson Wayne Smith; sister Diane Smith Skubal; nieces Robyn Watts (Randy) and Renee Garza (Conrad); nephew Chris Skubal; great-nieces Reece and Rylee; great-nephews Zane and Rowdy; greatgreat- niece Jane; Aunt Blanche McKay (John); and many cherished cousins.

Though she w i l l be deeply missed, the joy she brought and the memories she made will live on in all who loved her. A private celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
