Bennie Starr was born to Milton Ray and Leola Lehmann Starr on Dec. 20, 1942, in Taylor.

After graduating from Rockdale High School Class of 1962, he enlisted in the (Army) National Guard on Feb. 26, 1964. After basic training and extended training, he served in the reserves until his honorable discharge on Feb. 25, Mr. Starr

1970.

His civilian occupation after serving was market manager/ meat cutter for Safeway Grocer y, Brookshire Brothers, H.E.B. and retired f rom Peterson Grocery in Lexington after more than 65 years of cutting meat combined.

He and Barbara Nelson were married on June 5, 1965, at Grace Lutheran Church in Rockdale.

He was an ordained deacon and member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church in Rockdale.

He was also a member of the American Legion for 25 years.

Bennie passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at his home in Rockdale surrounded by his family. After many years of health issues, his earthly life ended and his heavenly life began. Praise God!

Survivors are his wife of almost 60 years, Barbara Nelson Starr; son Charles Ray and wife Rose Starr; daughter Beckie Starr Perez; son Kevin and wife Charlotte Starr; along with 13 grandkids, nine great-grandkids, one great-great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by father Milton Ray Starr; mother Leola Lehmann Starr; brother Michael Starr; sister Virginia Comeaux; and father/ mother-in-law Alvin and Dorothy Nelson.

Funeral services were held Saturday March 22, 2025, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home of Rockdale with burial following in I.O.O.F Cemetery in Rockdale. Pastor Stephen Ammons of Meadowbrook Baptist Church officiated.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Meadowbrook Baptist Church, 1401 Colorado, Rockdale, TX 76567 memorial fund.

Pallbearers were Justin Starr, Alvin Ray Starr, Nathan Starr, Darrell Mynar, Thomas Nelson and Jac Christman Honorary pallbearers were Ralph Czimskey, Derwood Mynar, Jarvis Lehmann, Ronnie Lehmann, Ricky Long, Tommy Buck and Ron Montgomery.
