A well-rested Thorndale squad takes on a Marlin team that is coming off a 59-7 loss to Hearne last Friday.
Kickoff for the game at Bulldog Stadium is at 7:30 p.m.
The Bulldogs have had three breaks this fall, starting with the first game of the season, when Chilton’s head coach canceled the matchup a month before the contest. The second week off was in September when referees called the game against Dawson due to lightning. Last week, the Bulldogs had a scheduled bye week.
“We used this past week to rest,” said Scott Hawkins, Thorndale High School head football coach and athletic director. “We also took time to polish some things before our final district game against Marlin, and the playoffs.”
The Falls County Bulldogs are winless this season with 0-9 record in District 13-2A D1. Last week, Hearne held Marlin to 31 total yards offense, including minus 24 yards rushing.
The Bulldogs moved down from 3A DII and are led by running back Sir Charleston Lee. Lee, 5’9 and 170 pounds, is a junior. The 2017 Bulldogs won four games and made the playoffs in their former classification, losing 41-29 to Clifton in the bi-district round. Marlin was picked to finish sixth by Texas Football Magazine.
Thorndale, 4-1 and 6-1 overall, last took the field in a fourth quarter comeback victory in Hearne in October. The Bulldogs scored three touchdowns in less than two minutes in the final quarter of the game to win 41-34.
For the first round of the playoffs, Hawkins and his team is facing the winner of the District 14-2A DI showdown – Junction Eagles vs. Center Point Pirates. Both squads are 2-2 in district play and will meet in Center Point on Friday for the final regular season game. The contest will determine third place in the district.
