Jones finishes 2nd against 5A-6A competition

Milano and Thorndale high school cross country teams held their own at the Pro-Fit Cross Country Invitational in Temple, Saturday, Sept. 1. The Eagles and Lady Eagles placed individually, while the Thorndale Bulldogs varsity placed fifteenth, and the Lady Bulldogs varsity placed ninth as a team. The teams competed against 1A-4A schools, while separate races were held for 5A and 6A schools.

Boys

Milano senior Parker Jones placed second among the bigger schools, with a time of 16:01.44. The first place finisher was Jeremias Serrano Velez of Killeen Shoemaker, 15:51:18. Jones placed fourth at last year’s state cross country meet at the Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.

The rest of Milano’s boys ran in the 1A-4A race.

43. Andy Gutierrez (freshman) 19:54.31; 111. Cinch Pilkey (sophomore) 25:41.69.

Thorn-dale had seven boys run in the 1-4A varsity race, and one junior varsity runner.

Senior and 2017 regional qualifier Mason Drumm placed thirty-fourth with a time of 19:31.37. 69. Evan Ivy (senior) 23:00.59; 100. Trayle Schroeder (freshman) 23:42.96; 102. Evan Williamson (sophomore) 23:55.03; 104. Scott Widner (senior) 24:11.06 and 106. Jake Ivy 24:37.28.

In the junior varsity race, freshman Ty Pesl placed thirty-seventh with a time of 22:11.65.

Girls

For the Milano Lady Eagles, junior Abby Miller placed seventy-fourth with a time of 16:41.60; 84. Danni Shaw (junior) 17:04.11 and 107. Angela Zeig (junior) 24:59.73.

For the Thorndale Lady Bulldogs, senior Ashton Kiesling placed twenty-seventh with a time of 14:40.25; 33. Ava Vicnair (sophomore) 14:49.22; 34. Trew Schroeder (freshman) 14:58.30; 70. Landry Lay-well (senior) 16:19.67; 80. Savanna Taylor (junior) 16:58.16; 90. Taije Schroeder (freshman) 17:32.53 and 96. Ariana Anders (junior) 18:24.76.

Junior varsity runners for the Lady Bulldogs, freshman Sandra Perez, placed eighty-sixth with a time of 22:58.76 and 91. Katelyn Nunez (sophomore) 23:34.45.

The Milano and the Thorndale Cross Country teams both run their next meet on Friday, Sept. 8, in Lexington along with the Rockdale Cross Country teams, who didn’t have any races this past week.
