As I wrap up this year’s Black History segment on Health and Wellness, I thought about the numerous topics that could be beneficial to not only black Americans, but the public in general.

A place to connect

Every year during in-service, our staff discusses building relationships. We talk about the importance of students being able to connect to their school and how that affects their willingness to be there and work hard.

LADY OF THE YEAR

LADY OF THE YEAR—The Alpha Tau Delta service sorority recognized Julia Cordona as their Lady of the Year for 2022. “Each year we recognize a lady from the community who epitomizes a servant’s heart and core values of giving back to the community,” said Brooksy Fisher, publicity chair.

VFD annual fundraiser tickets on sale

The Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual fundraiser at the KC Hall on April 23 from 5 p.m. to midnight. A meal will be served at 5:30 p.m. Ticket sales began on Feb. 14 and are $150 per couple.

RPD makes three felony arrests

Rockdale Police Officers made three felony arrests during the past week including: • Mariella Gonzales, 21, Manor, was arrested by Sgt.

FIRE CALLS

Rockdale VFD Responded to: • 210 Wood Road on Tuesday for a possible gas leak. • US 77 and 79 for traffic control on Wednesday for a vehicle pulling two vehicles which hydroplaned due to ice on the bridge which caused a traffic jam.

MILAM COUNTY JAIL LOG

Jail log lists all people charged with offenses through the county jail in Cameron. Charges may change during the process. Persons are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law. • Logan Eugene Woolverton, 38, Rockdale, out-of-county criminal nonsupport/failure to appear, in custody.

MILAM COUNTY SHERIFF’S REPORT

Calls for the Milam County Sheriff’s Department during the past week included: Feb. 22—Mental health call, North FM 487; mental health call, CR 342, Milano area; motor assist, CR 120; theft, CR 235; assist other agency, Woods Road, Rockdale; animal call, CR 104, Buckholts area. Feb.

Throwers raise $6,713 for Darian ‘Hump’ Jackson

Milam County Throwers (formerly known as Milam County Washer Throwers) held a benefit Sunday at the Rockdale VFW for Darian “Hump” Jackson, a 10-year-old boy who has been in the hospital with encephalitis since August 2021. The total raised was $6,713.
