James (“Jim,” “Two Tie”) Edward Sims, 82, of Rockdale died Sunday, May 13, 2018, at his home.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, May 18, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rock-dale with burial at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Rockdale.
Visitation is set for 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 17, at the funeral home.
Mr. Sims was born Sept. 28, 1935, in Corrigan to Thomas Jefferson and Nora Grace (Garcee) Sims.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict from July 1953 to July 1955.
Mr. Sims worked 15 years with Commercial Contractors as a welder and pipefitter until his retirement on Sept. 26, 1997.
He was a member of Pipe-fitters Local 211 and had been a union member the past 45 years.
On Feb. 20, 1996, he married Deborah Kay Winkler at Tanglewood Baptist Church in Tanglewood.
Mr. Sims enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, children’s sports events, especially football, family events and barbecuing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Ruby Brown; and eight brothers, Melvin, Leon, C.W., B.W., Eugene, Jack, Tom and Ernest Sims.
Surviving are his wife, Deborah Kay Sims of Rockdale; his children, Nikki Cryer and husband Chad of College Station, D.J. Morehead of Dallas, Nicholas Morehead and wife Anna Gail of Milano, Lawanna Ireland of Dayton and Jimmy Sims of Missouri; a brother, Gene Sims and wife Clara of Mississippi; and six grandchildren, Garrett Cryer, Ethan Cryer, Avery Cryer, Rachelle Morgan, Corie Hancock and Terry Traxler; also, eight great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
