Fred Estave Serpas was born on June 21, 1944, in Nacogdoches, to Robert Sidney and Minnie Smith Serpas.

He served his country in the U.S. Army National Guard.

He was a former member of the Rock-dale Masonic Lodge and Rockdale Lions Club.

Fred lived in Katy for the last 20 years and worked for Brook-shire Brothers for many years in Hearne, Rockdale and Lufkin. He also ran and owned his own truck stop and convenience store in Lufkin and Diboll for many years.

He then moved to Houston to work for Gerlands and Rice Foods. He most recently worked at Walmart for the last 15 years. He worked hard and always took pride in his work in the grocery industry.

Fred also enjoyed fishing, traveling, and spending time with his family.

Fred passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2019, at his home in Katy at the age of 74.

He is survived by his children, Amy Kristynik and husband Jerome of Katy, Jeff Serpas and wife Jennifer of El Campo, and Karen Garduno and husband Erik of Magnolia; a brother, Calvin Serpas and wife Norma of Alabama; nine grandchildren, Jeremy, Emily, Dalton, Drake, Laurence, Brittany, Payton, Kylie and Khloe; as well as numerous other relatives and many friends.

The family received friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Friday, March 1, at Schmidt Funeral Home East Avenue Chapel, in Katy, where funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday with Rev. C. McAllister (Mac) Vaughn officiating. Interment was private.
