During her childhood and teen years, she enjoyed going to and participating in activities at the local Methodist church.
In school, she participated in multiple group activities, one of which was serving as a Yoe High School cheerleader.

In 1980, she went back to school and earned her LCDC license to counsel people with alcohol and/or drug addictions. She proudly helped many people during her time serving as a LCDC at the Care Center in Rockdale.
In 1996, she used her creative talents and joined her daughter, Beckie, in co-owning Family Flower Shop in Rockdale. She retired in 2005.
