Janak

Charlie Janak, 87, of Rockdale died Saturday, July 21, 2018.

Mass is scheduled for Wednesday, July 25, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rockdale with Father Pedro Castillo and Father Gary Janak officiating. Burial will be at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Cemetery in Frenstat at 2:30 p.m.

Rosary was recited on Tuesday, July 24, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home.

Mr. Janak was born Nov. 4, 1930, to Rudolph Janak and Julia (Fikac) Janak in Shiner.

He worked at Tex Tanner in Yoakum and the Cotton Mill, then at Chicken Stahlbris in Gonzales.

He married Evelyn D. Rehak on Jan. 30, 1951.

Mr. Janak served in the U.S. Army for two years, receiving his basic training at Camp Roberts, California. He went overseas to Korea and, upon his return, he received a job with Alcoa’s Rock-dale Works in November 1954. He worked there for 38 years, retiring in July 1992.

Mr. Janak enjoyed working on his farm and learning about the agriculture industry. He passed on his knowledge and love of farming to his grandson, Wesley Janak, who continues the family cattle business.

Mr. Janak was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus, VFW and the American Legion.

He was a dedicated parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rockdale.

Mr. Janak was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Mark and Michael Janak; five brothers, Antone, Alex, Celestine, Leon and Joe; and two sisters, Frances Anderle and Staycie Wagner.

Survivors are his wife, Evelyn; a brother, Victor and wife Doris; a grandson, Wesley Janak and wife Jessica; a granddaughter, Chrystie Butler and husband Clint; and his great-grandchildren, Caylee and Case Butler, Luke Janak, Brayden and Gracey Burns.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rockdale and/or Rockdale Knights of Columbus Council No. 7014.
