Graveside service for Gaylen Leon Phillips, 72, of Rockdale were held Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2021, at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen with military honors.

Mr. Phillips died Monday, Oct. 25, at his home in Rockdale.

He was born June 19, 1949, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, to Raymond Benton and Floy Irene (Wisdom) Phillips.

He served in the U.S. Army from Aug. 15, 1966, and reenlisted Sept. 29, 1967, and was discharged Sept. 28, 1973, with a rank of SP5. He was a crawler tractor operator serving in Vietnam.

Mr. Phillips worked in data communications until his retirement.

He lived the past seven years in Rockdale. He was a member of HAM Radio Operators Club.

Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Floy Irene Phillips; a sister, Janice Baxter; and a brother, Gary Phillips.

Survivors are a daughter, Christina Arroyo and husband Robert; four grandchildren, Chasity Huemmer and husband Mike, Christopher Harlan, Gaylyn Price and husband Sam, Jacob Arroyo and fiancée Madeline Ramirez; a great-grandson, Gabriel Huemmer; two brothers, Edward Phillips and wife Nancy Ann Roach, and Carl Phillips; his nephews, Brett Baxter and wife Grace, Bart Baxter and wife Pam, Matthew Phillips, Johnathan “Duckie” Phillips and husband Jeremy Phillips, Randall Phillips and fiancée Michelle Love, Clay Phillips and wife Cassie; and his nieces, Candy Milder, Connie Borgerson and husband Bret and Wendy Newell.
