The Lady Tigers closed pre-district play on Saturday at the Snook Tournament, finishing fourth with a 2-3 record.

“We were a little beat up by the third day,” said Meredith Caffey, Rockdale High School girl’s head basketball coach. “Whenever you play that many games in a short amount of time, you’ll improve, but you also tend to get banged up a bit.”

The girls opened the tournament with a 53-41 win over class 5A College Station on Friday. Andrea Salazar had a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Anna Harmon also led the Lady Tigers with 13 points. Miah Beckwith and Payton Miller both scored nine points in their only game on Thursday.

RHS fell to the Bellville Lady Brahmas 36-34 on a last second shot to open Friday. Harmon led Rock-dale with 14 points. Miller had nine points, and Salazar had six. Rockdale ended Friday on a good note when they defeated Reagan (Austin) 45-25. For the second time that day, Harmon led the team with 18 points, six rebounds and four steals. Salazar was also a key scorer with nine points, along with Amahjanee Valdez, who had eight points.

On the final day of the tournament the Lady Tigers started to experience injuries.

“Andrea rolled her ankle,” Caffey said. “A couple other girls got a little hurt by then and it started to effect us.”

They played College Station again, but lost 49-44. Harmon and Valdez were leading scorers with 14 points each. Beckwith and Miller also were key scorers with six points apiece in their second game versus the Lady Cougars.

Rockdale finished the tournament with a 53-29 loss to Snook. The Lady Blue Jays came off a 29-3 record in the 2017-18 season. Snook went to area in 2017 with three seniors, two juniors and eight underclassmen.

Harmon was the top scorer with 12 points. Miller and Salazar had eight and five points, respectively.

Harmon averaged 12.2 points per game in Snook this weekend.

“I thought this was a good way for us to go into district,” Caffey said. “We played some good teams, and tournament play is always good experience.

“I think we’re as ready as we’ll ever be. We’ve watched film, and we’ve put in the time, and I think our girls are just ready to play.”

On Tuesday, the Lady Tigers opened district against the Cameron Lady Yoe. The game was played after press time.

Rockdale will play their next district game on Friday in Lexington against the Lady Eagles.

On Friday, Nov. 30, the Lady Tigers fell to the green and gold 50-35 at the Lexington Tournament.

Tipoff for the junior varsity is at 5 p.m., and the varsity will begin at 6:30 p.m.
