Although the Lady Tigers fell to rival Cameron 17-7 Thursday evening, they made the team from across the river earn their win, making up for a 11-1 loss to Lady Yoe in a district opener where RHS only had three hits on March 9.

“We were coming here a little worried,” said RHS softball coach Meghann Infantino. “Our pitcher (Brande Breithaupt) was in a car accident a few days ago and she has been out.”

“Haven (Jimenez) has been having to step in as a starting pitcher which she doesn’t normally do,” she said. “We (also) had kids in other positions and we had eighteen quality at-bats. That’s the best we’ve hit all year off of quality pitching and putting up seven runs against Cameron after they stomped us last time is huge.”

“Keeping them on their toes and making them have to work the whole game to earn it is a big deal for us,” Infantino said.

RHS was hot at the plate with 10 hits from Mariana Casarez, Emma Whitsel had two hits as well as Jimenez, who hit a home run in the opening inning. Hannah Rodriguez, Jena Locklin, Jessica Flores and Breithaupt had one hit apiece. Jimenez struck out two in 5.2 innings pitched.

Infantino also complimented her team, who she said are getting comfortable in their positions.

“We’re starting to catch up,” she said. “I’ve always told them that the beginning of the season can be as bad as you want but the middle of the season and the end through the playoffs has to be where you peak. I think we’re finally getting there.”
