Back in February, Milano ISD received a generous gift of stadium lights at their high school softball field with help from Whinstone US, a data center based in Rockdale.
Although many members of the community are excited about the improvement, district administrators are now channeling their focus toward raising funds for lights on the Eagle baseball field.
That’s why on Friday, June 18, the school is holding their first ever “Light It Up” fundraiser, with hopes to raise money for stadium lights for the Eagles.
The evening will begin with a barbecue chicken dinner starting at 6 p.m., where people can eat their meal in the high school cafetorium or drive through and take their food to-go. Following the meal, alumni will participate in a home run derby at the softball field before they play the alumni game under their brand new lights.
“We want to bring people out and give the Milano ISD community a chance to see the softball field lit up and an actual game under the lights,” said school athletic director Wendy King.
King also said adding lights to both fields will make it easier for parents and family members to make it to Milano baseball and soft ball home games.
Without lights, MHS begins their home games at 4 p.m., and many fans can’t get off of work in time to make it to those events.
“The fundraiser is only a first step in what may be a lengthy process,” King said. “But we are all committed to this project.”
