MEMORIAL DAY SERVICE IN CAMERON

 American Legion Edwin Hardy Post 9 will host Memorial Day Services in Cameron at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 27 at the War Memorial at the northeast corner of the Milam County Courthouse lawn. The speaker for this event will be Milam County District Attorney Bill Torrey, who served as an Army Ranger.

Parks Master Plan

The new draft Comprehensive Plan for Rockdale includes a large section dedicated to the city’s parks. A Parks Master Plan is required by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) for the city to be eligible for grants.

Miles, San Miguel top grads at Rockdale High

Rockdale Independent School District has released its list of top 10 graduates for the 2023-2024 school year and they are: • Ciara Miles, valedictorian, daughter of Charles and Camille Miles. She plans to attend the University of Houston.

RISD names new band director; Acevedo retiring after 14 years

Rockdale High School announces the appointment of Andrew Quinn as the new band director for the upcoming school year, suc ceeding Adrian Acevedo who is retiring after 14 years as Director of Bands in Rockdale.

Fire safety

Members of the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department held a fire safety and prevention course for first graders on Friday morning at Veterans Memorial Park. Fire Chief Dude Matous told the children it is important to recognize a fireman in all of his gear in case they saw one.

Voters to decide Milam County runoff races

Early vot ing in the Milam County runoff elections started on Monday and ends on Friday, May 24. Rockdale’s voting location is the Patterson Community Center for both early and election day voting. Thorndale’s location is the Veterans Memorial Hall.
