A question we frequently get is – where do folks in Rockdale/ Milam County work? I erroneously answered that Temple/Bell County is the main destination. This is why data is important because I was very wrong.

The first of Rockdale’s Community Market went off without a hitch and both vendors and customers had a great day. The market will be at the same location, Cardinal Roofing, 1613 West Cameron Avenue, every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.

Chamber banquet Thursday

The annual Rockdale Chamber of Commerce Banquet will be held next Thursday, April 25, at the New Salem building at Fair Park. Happy hour starts at 6 p.m. and the banquet begins at 6:30 p.m.

Stash Your Trash event on Saturday

The City of Rockdale will hold its Stash Your Trash event on Saturday at Fair Park from 8 a.m. to 12-noon or until the bins are full. This event is for city residents only, who will need a driver’s license and water bill to verify they live in the city limits.

—Upscale Barber Salon held their ribbon cutting last Thursday at their location at 703 W. Cameron Ave. The new salon offers both men’s and women’s services for haircuts, eyebrows and waxing.

Garden club plant exchange Saturday

Linwood Acres Garden Club is holding a plant exchange this Saturday, April 20 at the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce, 1203 W. Cameron Ave. from 9 a.m. to 12-noon. A variety of flower and vegetable plants will be available, and they are free. Attendees are encouraged to bring plants to the exchange.

New Girl Scout troop formed

A meet and greet for a new Milam County Girl Scout Troop will be held on two Saturdays, April 20 and 27, at Murray Street Church of Christ from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Girls grade pre-K through 12 and their guardians are welcome. Extended year membership is available now.

Mayor pro tem Lin Perry read a proclamation at last Monday’s city council meeting declaring Earth Day on April 22. The Rockdale Earth Day organization will hold their day of service this Friday, April 19 starting at 9 a.m. in the RHS gymnasium.
