Christmas tree lighting set for Thursday night

The Ro ckd a le Downtown Association’s annual Christmas Tree Lighting will be held on Thursday, Nov. 17, at Wolf Park. Chili and hot chocolate will be served starting at 6 p.m. and the tree lighting will be at 7 p.m. Bring lawn chairs for seating.

Springfield Baptist marks 150th anniversary

Springfield Missionary Baptist Church will hold their annual homecoming for their 150th anniversary at 11 a.m. Sunday. The speaker will be Bishop Billy Walker from Turning Point Church in Dallas. Mistress of Ceremonies is Artisha Willis of Dallas.

Oney Toy Run set for December 3rd

The 17th annual Buddy Oney Toy Run, which benefits needy children in Milam County, is set for Saturday, Dec. 3. As usual the ride will begin and end at The Ranch. Registration starts at 9 a.m. and will be $20 per rider or $25 with a passenger. Or a new toy valued at $25.

At Monday night’s meeting of the RISD Board of Trustees, the board recognized the Varsity Volleyball Team for advancement to the Bi-District Playoffs. Yolianna Castillo received the Texas High School Coaches Association 1st Team Academic All State Award for Volleyball.

RCS food pantry Rockdale Christian Services operates a food pantry at 224 West Cameron Avenue, open the second and fourth Thursday and Friday of the each month from 10 a.m. to noon.

The 22nd annual Community Outreach Thanksgiving Dinner, which will be held Saturday at the First Baptist Church from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., got a $200 boost from the Rockdale Rotary Club.
