Milano school board meeting cancelled tonight

ONE MORE COVID DEATH BRINGS MILAM'S TOTAL TO 98

This evening we have another death to report.  This brings the Milam County death toll to 98.  We have 11 new cases to report, 12, cases were discharged, leaving 17 active cases in the County.  One person was discharged from a local hospital.

KCs to begin annual ish fries March 2

The Rockdale Knights of Columbus will hold their annual Lenten fish fries from March 2 to April 14 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. or until sold out. The plates include fried fish, homemade French fries and hush puppies, their famous KC coleslaw, pinto beans and all the trimmings.

Friday Night Movies at the Kay Theatre

The Kay Theatre is launching Friday Night Movies starting Friday, March 4. Admission is $5 and there will be refreshments available for purchase. Some of the movies that will be shown are King Kong Skull Island, Knives Out, Solo: A Star Wars Story and Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Alcoa Retirees to meet on March 10th

Rockdale Alcoa Retirees will hold a meeting on Thursday, March 10. The meeting will be held at the Thorndale Veteran’s Memorial Hall (formally known as the VFW Hall). Doors open at 5 p.m. The business meeting begins at 5:45.

In the local election on May 7, Rockdale voters will have a contested mayoral race and two contested city council spots to decide. Incumbent Mayor John King will seek reelection and is being challenged by Brett Boren who joined the race on Friday.

Jennifer Razo and Jennifer Keen serve a big bowl of chili with all the trimmings to Joyce Dalley on Saturday at The Ranch and the annual fundraiser for the Rockdale Youth Baseball League. The chili was made by local businessman James McQuinn and by the end of the day all of the chili was sold.

School board approvals

Suzi Pagel from Foundation Innovation LLC presented to the board a proposal of providing services to Rockdale ISD to establish an educational foundation for the district.

Candace Whiteside Canady and her husband Alton Canady are a married couple of chiropractors. Candace, a 2007 Rockdale High School graduate, is the daughter of school teachers Lynn and A.J. Whiteside and the granddaughter of Rockdalians Billy Ray and Laura Locklin.

Happenings at RJH

There are an abundance of great things happening at RJH. We just wrapped up girls and boys basketball and are preparing for track. Band had a successful performance and great community support at their annual Spaghetti Supper. Our FFA will participate in competitions in Cy Creek and Weimer.
