School enrollment figures steady

School enrollments are holding steady in South Milam County. Most chose in-person classes but some are learning online. Total enrollment in the Rockdale ISD last week was 1,483, down 10 from last year’s total of 1,493 students.

Minor vehicle wreck leads to felony arrest

Rockdale Police made one felony arrest over the past week that happened after a wreck. FELONY ARRESTS — Juan Rubio Jr., 50, Rockdale, on Sept. 10 for failure to maintain financial responsibility and a local warrant for burglary of habitation.

FIRE CALLS

The Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department went out on a possible grass fire call Sept. 8 at 11:27 a.m. But it turned out to be a controlled burn. • The Thorndale Volunteer Fire Department answered a 4:23 p.m. call Sunday for a reported property fire.

DPS reports two wrecks

A one-vehicle wreck Saturday at 5:37 a.m. sent two people to the hospital, a Department of Public Safety spokesman said. Bryce Tamez was trying to pass another vehicle when he lost control of his vehicle, went off the road, the vehicle rolled and went through a fence.

ANXIOUS MOMENTS

A train passing through Rockdale had to stop after the conductor thought a man crossing the tracks had been hit by the train. Volunteer firefighters responded to a call around 7:57 a.m. on Thursday at Pear and Riley and found Julius Everage by the tracks. Everage was not hit by the train.

Blood drive set for September 26

An American Red Cross blood drive is slated for Saturday, Sept. 26 at the Milano Fire Station according to event spokesperson Devin Love. The drive will take place from 9a.m. to 1:30 p.m. For more information, call 979-436-5723.

Pleasant Retreat hosting chili supper Sept. 26th Pleasant Retreat UMC will hold its annual chili supper at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept 26. This will be a drive through event and will last until the chili runs out. The church is located at 825 CR 458 in Thorndale.
