Truck fire

This call to a burning 18-wheeler at 6:49 p.m. Thursday on US 79 at CR 335 was one of several during the past week for the Rockdale VFD. There was also a rekindle of the truck fire at 9:27 p.m. Rockdale volunteers also responded to reports of a grass fire at 4:15 and 9:56 p.m.

Meet the teachers, Eagles events set for August 19th

MILANO NEWS Milano ISD’s Meet the Teacher event will be held Aug. 19, starting at 5 p.m. The annual Meet the Eagles will also be held that evening at 7 p.m. at Geneva Paceley Gym.

Trey, Melanie and A.C. Coats of Houston visited Sunday afternoon with Wanda and Al Coats. Patti Stewart and Elizabeth Moore met Lynsie Kornegay and her boyfriend, Davion, for lunch at Wings & More in Bryan Sunday. They went school shopping while there and found lots of good bargains.

Certified values: RISD down, others increase

CAMERON—It’s not a surprise, but the only Milam County entity to see its taxable values drop in the annual certified values report from the Milam Appraisal District (AD) is the Rockdale ISD.

VOICES DONATIONS

The group VOICES Against Abuse has disbanded and has split its funds between two local organizations. The donations will fund a pair of VOICES-teed metal benches at both locations. Above, Pat Doud VOICES founder, presents $8,890.90 to Place of Hope.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL CAMPS

Vacation Bible schools offer a variety of activities with a Christian message for students of all ages. These are the programs in the area: July 29-Aug. 1—VBS at St. John’s UMC will be hosted by St. John’s United Methodist Church and Peace Lutheran Church. This year’s theme is “To Mars and Beyond.

KC donations benefit people in Milam County

Rockdale Knights of Columbus have donated more than $5,000 to Milam County individuals, charities, clubs and organizations through the first half of 2019. The non-profit organizations fundraising activities throughout the year fund their charitable contributions that go right back to community.

Milam County historical group meets August 12th

The Milam County Historical Commission’s meeting will be Monday, Aug. 12 at 10 a.m. at St. Johns United Methodists Church, 1700 Hillcrest Drive, Rockdale. The purpose of the commission is to preserve, protect, and promote history within the county.
