Ceremony to honor late Milam sheriff

CAMERON—A “remembrance” ceremony in honor of the late Milam County Sheriff David Greene will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at the sheriff’s office in the Milam County Law Enforcement Center. July 19 almost marks the one-year anniversary of Sheriff Greene’s unexpected death.

House sustains damage from Tuesday blaze A Division Street house sustained heavy damage in an early Tuesday morning fire. The Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department was called to 220 Division at 12:41 a.m. Just over five hours previously, the RVFD had responded to a stovetop fire at the same location.

CAMERON—Recent 20th District Court action included: • Cindy Renae Jansky, 31, Gause, five-year prison term after pleading “true” to a motion to revoke probation for aggravated assault with deadly weapon.

Two draw child endanger charge

POLICE REPORT Two men were charged with endangering a child Monday night after police assisted the Department of Homeland Security in an investigation. Lt. Stephen Goodrich said police visited the home of Larry Dean Foster, 56, and 42-year-old James Herbert Stevens.

Keeping cool

It’s that time of year again, when the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce give away fans to persons who need them to keep cool during the hot Texas summer months. Knights of Columbus Council 7014 recently donated $200 to the effort.

STOCH wants city hall memories

In order to preserve the history of the town’s heritage, a local group is seeking stories, photos, press clippings, furniture about the old police station/city hall building.

‘Major’ retailer headed to town

What had looked to be a “white elephant” for the City of Rockdale has apparently turned into a triumph for the town and its residents. City council members on Monday sold the six-acre site at 1166 West US 79 which was purchased three years ago to become the home of Rockdale’s new police department.

Fireworks, Flags, Fourth

What a Fourth of July it was Thursday in South Milam County, An estimated 1,000 persons gathered in the Fair Park area for a dazzling fireworks display and Milano-area residents were treated to a morning parade, complete with a free hot dog lunch.
