Fourth of July parade winners announced

MILANO NEWS The City of Milano held its annual Fourth of July parade and free hot dog meal last week. Results of parade winners are as follows: • Best overall—Lady Eagles 10u softball team. • Floats—Lil’ Eagles 6u T-ball team, first; Milam County Girl Scouts, second; Cecilia Martinez, third.

Music club wins awards for programs The Matinee Musical Club of Rockdale was awarded $200 from the National Federation of Music Clubs in recognition of it’s folk and jazz music programs during the 2018-19 calendar year.

SCHOLARSHIP

—Rockdale’s Thursday Reading Club recently awarded a $1,000 scholarship to graduating Rockdale High School senior Stephani Pantaleon. Making the presentation were club president Geri Burnett (R) and treasurer Annette Stone.

More good economic news for city

There was more economic good news for Rockdale during the week. On Monday, County Judge Steve Young told commissioners the Saratoga Group has purchased two properties in Rockdale, including the 150-lot Sherwood Forest Mobile Home Park.

No decision yet on outside water purchase by city

A decision on whether to purchase water from an outside source for the city’s planned multi-million-dollar upgrade still hasn’t been made. City council members met Monday in regular session at City Hall to discuss a delay in receiving grant funding to start the project.
