Schedules listed for 4th of July Thursday is July 4th and the usual closings are in order for Rockdale. City Hall will be closed, as will the Lucy Hill Patterson Memorial Library. But there will be garbage pickup as usual. Local financial institutions will be closed for the holiday.

Clinic eyes sales tax transfer vote

The Rockdale Hospital District is investigating the particulars involved in getting voter approval to transfer sales taxes which have been collected by the Rockdale Municipal Development District (MDD) for the last 10 years to a new clinic.

Major intersection closed

Don’t drive through the intersection of Murray and Meadow one block from Rockdale High School and a major corner in western Rockdale. Well, it’s not like you could. It’s one of two intersections closed for extensive drainage projects and to replace and repair driving surfaces.

Hemp: Rockdale hub, 50 jobs

The leaders of a company who want to bring an industrial hemp business to Rock-dale and Milam County visited Monday and promise activity by fall.

Fireworks, fun, 4th, freedom, Fair Park

It’s Rockdale’s turn to host the Fourth of July fireworks bash. Fair Park will be the site of the 6 to 10 p.m. observance on Thursday. According to the Rock-dale Chamber of Commerce, $5 wristbands will be sold for unlimited children’s games.

Free breakfast

Rockdale Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6525, and its Auxiliary, invite the public to a free Fourth of July breakfast at the post home, 978 West US 79. Spokesperson Donna Diver said the breakfast is open to everyone and will be held from 7 to 10:30 a.m. on the Fourth.

Town’s 1981 ‘Jane Doe’ seeks info

Jessica Diehl may visit Rockdale later this year. It will be more pleasant for the North Carolina resident than her first encounter with Rockdale 38 years and one month ago. Diehl was the newborn infant abandoned behind the 1200 block of Highland on June 1, 1981.

Rockdale’s Brett’s in BBQ ‘final 4’

AUSTIN—A Rockdale barbecue restaurant is in the “final four” of a Texas Monthly readers poll to determine the state’s best. It’s impressive enough that Brett’s Backyard Barbecue is in the semifinal balloting.

City looking for seniors in water-bill pay effort A June 20 meeting to inform Rockdale senior citizens some may be eligible to have their May and June water bills paid by an area agency did not draw the hoped-for crowd, according to City Manager Chris Whittaker.
