Senator to speak at Summit

The Milam and Burleson Counties Groundwater Summit is quickly approaching. This event has been set for Wednesday, Aug. 14, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. “All are welcome to attend,” Doug Box, spokesman for the Post Oak Savanna Groundwater Conservation Distinct, said.

Texas sales tax holiday Aug. 9-11

Whether you’re in need of notebooks, rulers or running shoes, Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar is reminding shoppers they can save money on those and other items during the state’s sales tax holiday on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 9-11.

2019 4-H Banquet slated for Sept. 8th

MICAH HOLCOMBE Milam County Extension Agent It’s that time of year again—back-to-school. Many parents and children prepare for that first day of school by doing some back-to-school shopping, which often involves buying new clothing, pens, pencils, paper, markers, etc.

‘Sing’ movie slated Friday at Kay Theatre

The Kay Theater will show the animated movie “Sing” twice Friday at the Kay Theatre. Public showing is at 7 p.m., according to Bob Burnett, spokesman. Earlier in the day there’s a special luncheon showing for children in First Baptist Church’s “Feed Rockdale” program.

Remembering

With officers from many departments on hand, and half-staff flags fluttering in the breeze, Milam County, and its law enforcement community, remembered the late Sheriff David Greene on Friday, one day before the first anniversary of his death from a heart attack.

MDD: ‘Debt would delay transfer’

For the first time, the Rockdale Municipal Development District (MDD) has indicated it might consider surrendering at least some of its half-cent sales tax to help bring a new clinic to the former hospital campus.
