RCS food pantry Rockdale Christian Services operates a food pantry at 224 West Cameron Avenue, open 10 a.m. until noon weekdays. Donations of non-perishable food items are welcome, especially one-pound bags of rice, pinto beans, macaroni and cheese, canned soups and peanut butter.

Rockdale’s Christmas Roundup, which provides holiday cheer for the less fortunate, needs nominations of those to serve and volunteers for the massive effort, according to drive spokesman Allen Sanders.

Downtown and Central Rockdale become a bottleneck on US 79 for a couple of times every Thanksgiving season. This was the scene the day before Thanksgiving looking west from Burleson toward Wilcox. The scene repeated itself on Sunday with returning Thanksgiving holiday traffic.
