22 indicted by grand jury Thursday

CAMERON—Twenty two persons were indicted on 27 counts Thursday in the November session of the Milam County Grand Jury, according to Prosecutor Bill Torrey, who said there were no “no bills” issued.

Monday ceremony honors late Milam man

AUSTIN—A Thorndale man was electrocuted on July 21—one day short of what would have been his 21st birthday—was one of 16 persons honored in a ceremony at the state capitol on Monday. Jacob Biar was honored on Texas Agriculture Memorial Day which commemorates sacrifices made by farmers and ranchers.

BUSY VETERANS—It’s been a busy month for Rockdale Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6525 and its Auxiliary. The post began the big November with a big award.

Sales tax: Welcome good news for county

This was the month Milam County has been waiting for all year, so far as sales tax receipts are concerned. Milam is still “in the red” for the year, but the November rebate of $106,519 took a chunk out the deficit. That’s 15.96-percent better than the November, 2017, rebate of $91,855.

Paper due out early before Thanksgiving

County tweaks Bitmain policy

CAMERON—Milam County Commissioners, in a 4-0 vote Tuesday, accommodated Bitmain by slightly altering its tax abatement requirements.

Rising Star hosting service on Monday

Rockdale’s annual Community Thanksgiving Service, sponsored by the Rockdale Ministerial Alliance, is set for 6:30 p.m. Monday at Rising Star Baptist Church. That’s Monday and it’s a change from the traditional Tuesday date for the community service.

More expense for city water infrastructure

Rockdale’s water system is incurring more expense after the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) gave the city a Nov. 30 deadline to address what it sees as a chemical imbalance.
