Cool car show

It was really that Saturday morning and early afternoon as there were 15 entries at the second annual First Presbyterian Car Show. Cloudy skies, temperatures in the low 50s and a north breeze failed to dampen the enthusiasm of car buffs.

GOOD TIMING

—“Winter” and the annual Rockdale Historical Society chili luncheon arrived pretty much together over the weekend. The Historical Society raised about $2,000 with its annual event, held Saturday in the New Salem HD Clubhouse at Fair Park. The event also featured a silent auction.

Humorist coming to library Thursday

Tweed Scott, speaker and author will present a program at the Lucy Hill Patterson Memorial Library at 6 p.m. Thursday, according to Librarian Melanie Todd.

‘Rockdale Uncorked’ ahead on Saturday The annual Rockdale Uncorked wine tasting event is set for 3 to 7 p.m. Nov. 17 at the Patterson Civic Center. Tickets are now on sale. Advance tickets are $25 each and may be purchased online at www.rockdalechamber.com or at the Chamber’s rock house office.

Local veteran gets honor from Flores

A Rockdale veteran is among those honored this Veterans Day season by Congressman Bill Flores (R-Bryan). Les Davenport is one of 26 in Congressional District 17 to be honored. Veterans receive commemorative coins, certificates and a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol.

Police reminder on local curfews

Rockdale police have issued a reminder that there are two local curfews in effect. One citation for violation of curfew was issued this week. Lt. Stephen Goodrich noted that the city’s juvenile curfew is between the hours of 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday nights and 11 p.m. and 2 a.m.

MILAM COUNTY JAIL LOG

Here is the jail log for Nov. 6-12 from the Milam County Sheriff’s Department. Jail logs list all persons charged with offenses through the county jail docket. Charges may change during the process. Persons are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law.

FIRE CALLS

One fire call was dispatched from the Rockdale Police Station during the past seven days. It was listed by police as follows: • 4:28 p.m. Sunday, Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department and Atmos Energy responded to a gas leak in the 500 block of East Belton.
