School eyes social media abuse

The Rockdale ISD is ready to tackle “inappropriate use of social media,” along with alcohol and drug abuse. Trustees also elected Troy Zinn as new school board president during a regular monthly meeting in the Central Administration Building.

Slab poured, new PD on schedule

Thursday morning was a milestone in construction of the new Rockdale Police Department. Work crews poured the slab for the nearly 10,000 square-foot structure in the 300 block of East Cameron (US 79) at the Green Street intersection.

Intoxication manslaughter arrest made A 39-year-old Leander man was booked into the Milam County Jail Friday and charged with intoxication manslaughter in connection with an April 20 highway collision. Jody Mack Wood was released the same day after posting a total of $105,000 bond.

Milam voters favor White, Davidson

Milam County voters in both the Republican and Democratic Primaries didn’t agree with the statewide verdicts in a pair of runoff elections held Tuesday. In the Democratic Primary, Milam voters endorsed Andrew White, son of former Texas Gov.

Program Thursday at city’s library

Author Sean Wall will host a book signing at 6 p.m. Thursday at the city library. Wall’s book The Cycle of Foraging highlighted learn about, and begin utilizing, wild foods. It notes when different parts of plants are at their height, and when specific species may be harvested.

Arrest follows traffic stop

POLICE REPORT A speeding stop in a school zone Monday afternoon has led to the arrest of a 52-year-old Austin man on drug charges. Lt. Stephen Goodrich said Kenneth Ray Boyd was charged with possession of a controlled substance (1 to 4 grams) and possession of marijuana (less than two ounces).
