FIRE CALLS

South Milam County volunteer fire departments were called out twice during the seven-day reporting period that ended Monday. The Thorndale VFD was summoned to a grass fire in the 3200 block of FM 486 at 3:46 p.m. May 8.

Applause, applause

National Music Week, 2018, wound down in Rockdale last week but not before some young musicians made some senior citizens very happy. Students of Dixie Whit-more’s Keyboard Melody Makers performed twice on Thursday, at the Senior Citizens Center (above) and at Renaissance Villa.

GCA holds Mother’s Day homecoming

GAUSE NEWS Gause Cemetery Association held their annual Mother’s Day Homecoming at the Baptist Church Saturday. Ray Coats served as master of ceremonies. Claude Spence led the singing, as Kathy Turner played the piano. The “theme song,” “Church in the Wildwood,” was led by Claude Spence.

Whitmore piano students spring program set Friday

Piano students of Dixie Whitmore will present their annual spring music program at 7 p.m. Friday, May 18 at First Baptist Church, 240 Green Street. Solos and duets in different styles of music will be performed.

Milano boys track team wins first ever state title

MILANO NEWS Milano ISD has its first ever team state title. The boys track team brought home the Class 2A state track championship on Saturday from the UIL State Track and Field Championships. The team consisted of just seven young men and we are so very proud of them and their coaches.

Caution urged as rabid bat found at TISD

Shooting death probe over

An investigation into the shooting death of a Thorn-dale resident the night of July 4, 2017, has been officially closed. And it’s been ended without any criminal charges being filed, according to Thorndale Police Chief Martin Jackson.
