Thanks to MDD exec director for efforts Dear editor, Bitmain continues to develop its campus. Solar farms appear to be in our near future. At least four new dining places have opened in Rockdale in the past three months. Rockdale is about to be featured in a Super Bowl commercial.

Dangerous speeds on Milano’s streets

It is with conviction in my heart that I am writing to you, in hopes that it will raise an awareness of safety in our community. I sit on my porch in the early morning hours, between 7 and 8 a.m., before school begins in Milano, as well as in the afternoon hours, between 3:15 and 4 p.m.

EDITOR’S CORNER Got in an interesting discussion the other day about names of things and about how many of them actually have either different or longer names than we think. Did you know we have four states which aren’t really states? Yep.

Commissioners court governs the county

JUDGE’S COMMENTS With the Constitution of the Republic of Texas came the idea of government by the respective counties. Today we have 254 counties and each is governed by a commissioners court. Initially, counties were governed by the Justices of the Peace and the Chief Justice (county judge).

100 YEARS AGO.... Reporter Publisher John Esten Cooke returned to work after a three-week bout with “flumonia.” He wrote: “I felt like I have lost a bushel of pep, but I can still hammer that typewriter.” Indeed.

Daily gratitude brings joy

He told me to tell you that Last year I read a “chick book” by Ann Voskamp entitled, One Thousand Gifts. I have been inspired by the book to create a list of gifts that I’m thankful for. I’m still old, tired and cynical but let me add to those adjectives that I’m also grateful.

WAR and TEA

EDITORIAL Last week the Texas Education Agency (TEA) came out with its annual report card for Texas school districts and campuses. It was the first time ever for the annual rankings to be boiled down to one number grade. Rockdale’s was 74. That wasn’t exactly a surprise.
