We have some very important state and local elections starting next month. In fact, in less than one month, early voting begins on Feb. 14 and election day is March 1. Every vote is important and your right to vote is critical to our democratic process. Please be informed and vote.

100 YEARS AGO… Mr. and Mrs. Fred H. Graves were the delightful hosts of Ye Merrie Wives Club. Ferns and exquisite pink sweet peas, rich shaded pansies and pink and white carnations graced the reception rooms where tables were arranged for the club game of 42.

We have been busy at The Rockdale Reporter. I told you last week that Gene Stork moved his business into our building which required us to do some moving and cleaning which was much needed anyway.

Renovation began on the new Milam County Annex on June 1, 2021. Substantial progress has been made and the project is about 80% complete. We hope to complete the 35,000 square foot renovation by April 1.

10-20-40-100 YEARS AGO 100 YEARS AGO… Ground was broken on Rockdale’s modern high school building. The building would occupy a position approximately in the center of the big campus which includes two blocks of ground and will face east.

Predictions for Rockdale in 2022

The Reporter is going to make some 2022 predictions about our town and we’ll check back in 2023 to see how we did. In early 2022 The American Statesman Glove Co. will choose Rockdale as its home which will start an economic boom.

Today is my mama’s birthday so if you see her give her a birthday greeting! —kwc— You already know when you come to The Rockdale Reporter you can buy a newspaper, have papers faxed and make copies. But in 2022 you’ll also be able to get a haircut, a permanent wave and take quilting classes.

In the last couple of years, several solar companies have petitioned the Milam County Commissioners Court for tax abatements. Of course, the court is typically the second stop for solar as it must first acquire a lease with individual landowners.

100 YEARS AGO… Mr. O.G. Moore, construction foreman of the new Rockdale High School building, arrived from Bryan Wednesday and informed The Reporter that work is scheduled to start on the new building immediately, some materials already being on the road.
