Sale of Alcoa property Alcoa closed its doors back in 2008 and thereafter began to talk about selling the 31,000 plus contiguous acres the company owned. On Friday, October 29 the property was officially sold to SLR properties.

Brett Boren celebrated the third anniversary of his Brett’s Backyard Bar-B-Que in grand style on Sunday with BrettFest, a gathering of over 40 barbecue joints from across our state as well as three others and one from Mexico. He also managed to sell out about half of the hotel rooms in Rockdale.

In another week daylight savings time will end and I’m not happy about it even though this is the one where we get an extra hour of sleep. I hate when it’s dark as soon as you get home from work. I can understand why we do it, mainly so kids won’t be waiting for the bus in the dark.

On Monday, October 25 the Milam County Commissioners Court took another historic step forward to land the American Statesman Glove Company in Milam County. By a unanimous vote the court approved a reasonable tax abatement for the company that will provide a 70% abatement over the next 10 years.
