ROCKDALE FAIR— Last weekend Rockdale held its 46th annual Fair. What a huge success! Thanks to all the youth of this county who worked so hard with an animal or a project. These are truly our leaders of tomorrow.

100 YEARS AGO… C.W. Maston of Dallas has bought the Dixie Theater from E.I. Wade. Mr. Matson is an old picture show man and promises to make the Dixie one of the best show houses in Central Texas. He announced that it will be operated every day from now on.

Best of Rockdale

The 2021 contest is over and here are this year’s winners The 2021 Best of Rockdale votes have been tabulated and we are announcing this year’s winners. See ad on page 8B for a list of the winners and categories. The number of people voting was much higher this year and the competition was fierce.

Laughing with an old friend is healing

I was talking to my friend Brenda the other day. She and I go way back to our days working together at The Houston Post. When The Post closed we both went to the Houston Chronicle. She and her late husband had a change of life baby and I came up with a name for her: Vanessa Van Straten.

Regional Training Center for county

Milam County has undertaken what may be the most aggressive project ever undertaken by county government—a regional training center. The idea is to provide training for all ages here in Milam County for a host of different types of non-college careers.

100 YEARS AGO Mr. and Mrs. E.A. Green took all the children in and around Rockdale for a day’s outing on the San Gabriel River for pecan gathering, etc. Reporter readers were asked to phone 175 not later than 6 p.m. Saturday to get a head count so there would be enough dinner for all.

Breast cancer

Each year in the United States, about 255,000 women get breast cancer and 42,000 women die from the disease. Men also get breast cancer, but it is not very common. About 1 out of every 100 breast cancers diagnosed in the United States is found in a man.

Correction

The Rockdale Reporter has published at least two stories naming the American Glove Co. as the company possibly coming to the Alcoa property. The name of the actual company is the American Statesman Glove Co. The Reporter regrets the error.

I was sitting outside the other night and the evening air was so refreshingly nice. Suddenly, I started sweating profusely for no apparent reason. I went inside and put on a thinner t-shirt thinking that would help. Then it all went away as quickly as it started. Is male menopause a thing?

100 YEARS AGO Maxie’s Theatre had the following movies playing 100 years ago this week: Viola Dana in “Home Stuff” and a two-reel Christie Comedy on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursdays showing was “Passion Flower” staring Norma Talmadge.
