How ironic that National Teacher Appreciation Week and National Nurses Week should overlap. The week for teachers was May 4-8 and the week to honor nurses was May 6-12.

Praise for Chief Harris’s leadership

Dear editor, It has been my privilege to have known Chief Harris for 20 years and have worked with him as District Attorney for the last 7-1/2 years. In my 40 years as a state and federal prosecutor, I have worked with many fine law enforcement officers. None finer than Thomas Harris.

First trip out of Rockdale in a while

I’m getting three weeks per fill up lately and I can’t remember the last time I went outside of Rockdale. However, on Saturday Noelia and I went to Costco to get a few things we needed. It’s been a long time since either of us has gone there. Masks are required at Costco so we brought ours.

Good new this week in spite of COVID-19

In spite of all the bad news about the virus, economic progress has continued in the county. Our new businesses are making progress and our old businesses are still here as well. Each of us can do our part by continuing to support all of our local businesses.

Thomas Harris’s 43 years of service beneficial for Rockdale When a law enforcement officer serves five years in the same place that’s an impressive achievement. When one serves 10, that’s a career. When one serves 20, that’s a legacy. When one serves 43, that’s Thomas Harris.

Dalton rescues me from fear of snakes

A few weeks ago when I was walking the dogs we ran across a big, fat black snake. I posted a picture of it on social media and about half misidentified it as venomous and the other half got it right. It was a plain bellied watersnake which are nonvenomous.

Do your part to control virus; don’t think ‘not me’

It is truly human nature to think that bad things are not going to happen to me. No doubt every young man who has gone off to war thinks that the other man will get killed, but not me. When we hear about someone else getting ill, invariably we think to ourselves, not me.

100 YEARS AGO.... Graduation was to be held in the City Hall Auditorium for the RHS graduating class of 1920. Members were S. B. Ford, Snively Riddle, Pearl Fletcher, Ivy Williams, Ellen Prewitt and Ophelia Estell.
