Dear editor, There’s no magic in a community’s economic development. It’s hard work. It depends on local focus and commitment. It costs money to make money. In our case economic development means making a community and its region better off.

EDITOR’S CORNER Back in the dim dark ages past there used to be something called “etiquette.” It was basically a code of behavior, prescribed ways you’re supposed to behave. Manners. Oops, used another mystifying word there.

SPOILIN’ THE BROTH Wife Pegaroo will tell you that I’m not really adept at housekeeping. Therefore, I have come to realize I’ll never make the U.S. Olympics curling team as the guy with the broom. I love the summer Olympics, especially track and field and swimming and diving.

Doing for others

Aclassmate of mine in college had a motto above his study desk that read: I’M THIRD. One evening we asked him what it was all about. He explained, “It is how I try to live my life. God first, others second, I’m third.” Not bad! Let me tell you a story.

There’s a story about a little boy who was not behaving very well so his parents punished him by placing him in their walk-in closet. When the dad went to check on the boy he found him sitting in the middle of the closet fl oor.
