COVID-19 takes another life in county

Milam County Judge Steve Young announced the grim news Tuesday night: another death from COVID-19. “Again, I am saddened to report the death of another Milam County resident who died as a result of the COVID-19 virus,” he wrote in an email. “This brings our COVID-19 death toll in the county to 53.

Rockdale High School sets summer band practice

Rockdale High School band members will be striking up practice starting July 19 preparing for the coming marching season. Students will need to bring more that just their instruments, band director Adrian A. Acevedo said.

Blood drive planned at KC Hall on July 16

There will be a blood drive July 16 from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus on U.S. 79 east of Rockdale. The Red Cross blood drive is the eighth one dedicated to Naomi Ruelas who was 17 when she died from a rare immune disorder.

Family reunion planned for friends too, July 24

The Sanford and Lucy Caffey family reunion for friends and relatives will be held at Patterson Center adjacent to Fair Park on July 24 beginning at 10: a.m. A pot luck lunch will be served at noon with drinks, plates and utensils furnished.

VFW Auxiliary seeking school supplies for kids

As one school year ends, the beginning of a new one is just a summer away. So preparation for the coming school year is already underway in some corners of the area. The VFW Auxiliary Post 6525 in Rockdale is now accepting donations for its 2021 School Supplies Drive.

Springfield Baptist Church held their annual Vacation Bible School last week with over 30 attendees shown here with Pastor Shawn Hancock and lots of helpers. They celebrated the last day with a barbecue lunch with all the fixings.

The 4-H Cloverbud Day Camp was held July 7 at the Youth Exposition Building. The Cloverbud kids are kindergarten through second-grade students. The 4-H teen leaders taught 4-H lessons in horse basics, goat tying and barrel racing.
