RISD Veterans Day program big hit Monday

EVERY HEART BEATS TRUE— Rockdale Elementary School students brought down the house with their rendition of “You’re A Grand Old Flag” at RISDs annual Veterans Day Program held in the high school gym.

Christmas Tree lighting to be held Nov. 21st

Rockdale Downtown Association will hold it’s annual Christmas Tree Lighting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21. Attendees will enjoy free chili, hot chocolate and cookies before the tree lighting which will be held at 7 p.m.

Since Rockdale Animal Shelter only deals with dogs, Rockdale resident Amanda Miller is single-handedly taking care of the city’s stray cat population at her home at 514 West Davilla, and she has about 50 cats in her charge.

Oney Toy Run set for Dec. 7

The 19th annual Buddy Oney Toy Run will be held on Saturday, Dec. 7, with registration starting at 9 a.m. at The Ranch. This annual event raises money for several different organizations to provide Christmas presents for Milam County’s less fortunate children. The ride, which leaves at 11 a.m.

Thanksgiving side dishes

When I was little, my mom’s side of the family used to make sweet potato casserole with marshmallows on top. I love sweet potatoes, but I’ve never understood this dish, though I know a lot of people love it. Here is Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse’s recipe without the marshmallows.
