BEFORE AND AFTER

Alcoa’s former Sandow Steam Electric Unit 5 and the smokestack of Unit 4 are no more after an implosion on Saturday morning at the SLR property using almost 700 pounds of explosives to bring them both down. Unit 4 is being repurposed.

Unofficial Milam County election results were released at about 10 p.m. Tuesday night. REPUBLICANS District Attorney— Assistant D.A. Brian Price had a great night winning 59.27% (2,381 votes) to win the District Attorney race over Cameron Police Chief Lonnie Gosch’s 40.73% (1,636 votes).

CORNERSTONE

The foundation for the first house at the new Cornerstone Subdivision will be poured soon at 307 Perry Street. The first home will be a model. D.R. Horton is the builder and there are 11 different floor plans from which to choose.

ROCKDALE CHAMBER NEWS

Rockdale Chamber of Commerce’s Community Easter Egg Hunt will be held on March 29 at Fair Park starting at 10 a.m. As in past years, the kids will line up and a countdown will begin for them to find all the eggs they can.

Cockrell to speak at annual Chamber banquet

The annual Rockdale Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet is coming up on April 25 at the New Salem Clubhouse in Fair Park starting at 6:30 p.m. with happy hour starting at 6 p.m.

Rockdale’s favorite historian, Dr. Lucile Estell, celebrated her 94th birthday on Sunday afternoon at Rockdale Estates and Rehabilitation with the Thursday Reading Club sponsoring.

QUICK LOOK

A fundraiser benefiting several youth sports organizations will be held at East Bell Taphouse on Saturday, March 23 at 3 p.m. The beneficiaries are the Girls Softball League, Soccer Association, Baseball Association, Football and Cheer and Wake Aquatics.

Rockdale Rotary Club meets the first, third and fourth Tuesdays of each month at the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department from noon to 1 p.m. Lunch is provided. Rockdale Noon Lions Club also meets at RVFD on the first and third Wednesday of each month with lunch provided.
